Haru, spring, is the third season in the academic year. School starts in fall, progresses through the winter and on into the spring. If you can write the kanji for San (three) then you know the order and proportions of the first three strokes of Haru. The finished the character is something like the rays of sunshine that melt the winter ice, and the reflection of the sun itself on the water.
