SIX sounds like SICK. The kanji looks like a person lying SICK in bed. The top stroke is the head, the horizontal is the blanket pulled up to the sick person's head, and the diaogonals are his/her two feed sticking out from under the covers. SICK->SIX. (This mnemonic was invented by a student many years ago.)

Some students see it as a Brown's Chicken logo--Think "Brown's SIX-Piece Chicken Dinner."
