Beijing Language and Cultural University Press (Beiyu) paid an official visit to Purdue University to discuss the redevelopment of New Practical Chinese Reader (NPCR) textbook. NPCR is a major language textbook overseas including the US since the 80’s. Purdue University adopted this book in 1989 and has developed substantial supplementary materials and technology-based programs. An on-line course has been developed and taught at Purdue since Fall 2013.

The delegation, headed by Zhang Jian, editor in chief of the Press, and Prof Liu Xun, editor in chief for NPCR series, observed the language classes, listened to the technology demos and discussed with the faculty and staff on how to redevelop the third edition. The Beiyu team was impressed by Purdue’s efforts in enriching the contents of NPCR and looks forward to working with Purdue on the new edition.
